Rick Retro’s Realm, Project #3: 40 Dark Whimsy Favorites in 80 Days, 1996-2001, a couple Coens, a concentration camp, and a couple of castles. Cool.

#36 (1996) Fargo
Another entry from the Coen brothers. Will it have enough Whimsy? Or in this case, Whimzy?
#37 (1997) Life Is Beautiful
Of course it’s on the list!
#38 (1999) The Castle
Voted in 2018 by the Australian public as the greatest Australian film ever made. Barely even heard of in America.
#39 (2000) O Brother, Where Art Thou?
The Coen brothers adapt Homer’s Odyssey.
#40 (2001) Shrek
DreamWorks animation achieves Pixar-level success for the first time.
#41-45 will be revealed tomorrow!
What?!?!?
