Retroactive Re-Grades
Rick Retro’s Realm, Behind the Scenes #9: “My mind must be clean, I change it so often.”
Sometimes my opinion changes about something I’ve already graded. A new viewing after years have passed is the most likely way for this to happen. But if I viewed something very recently, it can happen too. Maybe it lingers in my mind and I realize that I liked it more or less than I originally thought. Maybe I notice it doesn’t fit with other works that received the same grade.
In the case of You've Got Mail, I graded it A+> and put it on my “All-Time Best Christmas Movies” list published yesterday after viewing it, but before writing my review. When writing my review and also evaluating the viewpoint of the film, I realized that I felt it should be A+^, so that's what you'll see when the review comes out in just a bit.
I still think Edward Scissorhands was a little bit better, and on reflection decided to raise its grade too, from A+> to A+^.
Both are great films, fully deserving my highest grade.
Thanks for your support.
