Rick Retro’s Realm, Behind the Scenes #14: Scales, Ratings and Templates
Over the last couple of days I’ve described three types of projects I will undertake in the future. It might seem like I’m stalling. Yep.
Before I resume viewing and reviewing content again, I’m still working to nail down details of the full review system. For example, I’m making my Dark and Whimsy scales more objective and less subjective—likewise with content ratings. Content ratings are tricky. For example, back in the day, smoking was ubiquitous and drunkenness was considered funny. Content otherwise suitable for kids included both. As a notable example, The Andy Griffith Show of the 1960s set in the fictional town of Mayberry, North Carolina, counted a town drunk in its cast of characters.
Getting all the details just right will lead me to the next step. I’m working on developing a template for the notes app on my phone. A scoresheet, if you will, to run through after a viewing. I will use the scoresheets to remind me of everything that needs to be rated, and to help me tally up and assign those ratings. Those scoresheets will be where I make notes of all my observations, even on the contributing underlying factors that I only summarize in my ratings for you. Finally, they will serve as the launchpad for writing the reviews, as well as a touchstone to check in with when I inevitably revisit some reviews in the future.
I’d love to have this all completed in the next couple of days, but I have my annual physical scheduled this week, and some other neglected errands that I also need to make time for. So, realistically, it might take until the end of the week.
Better news: I have decided on the overview project I will tackle once I resume reviewing. It’s a big challenge for me, but it will be great fun and I think I’m up to it. You’re gonna love it as well! Stay tuned!
Thanks for your support.
Keep the comments coming!
